Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

"Accuracy and extreme care at your service."The maxillofacial surgeon is a doctor who specializes in surgery in the area of the jaws and face. The most frequent consultations are related to the wisdom teeth, the removal of cysts or the placement of implants. Wisdom teeth often show between the ages of 18 and 25, but they do not always do so. In fact, there is a 35% of the population that is born without them, so it is possible that you do not have them. In any case, in our reviews we will monitor their position and assess if they need to be removed (in case they put pressure on other teeth). With regard to cysts, they are non-tumor benign lesions, so be calm. If we detect a cyst, the surgeon will remove it and the tissue will progressively recover until it returns to normal.
I have been detected a cyst in a tooth and I am worried, is it serious?
A cyst is a type of non-tumoral lesion, and therefore benign.
They usually do not cause symptoms for a long period of time (they do not hurt) so their finding is often occasional in routine radiological and oral examinations.
The cystectomy consists of surgically removing the cyst and closing the wound, favoring the regeneration of tissues after removal.
It is a type of treatment that is performed under local anesthesia at the clinic (with few exceptions). In Centro Puy we have the necessary diagnostic and surgical means to approach this intervention with total safety.
Will I be able to work right after my wisdom teeth are removed?
It depends on many factors, both the type of work you have and the complexity of the extraction.
Some extractions are simple and require no more care than the removal of any other tooth.
However, there are other cases where the tooth has not erupted or is “very hidden” inside the bone. In those cases, we need to access it with a small surgery and that can cause inflammation after the intervention.
With the right medication and the recommendations we will give you regarding food, the postoperative will be good, but we will recommend that you do not make physical efforts for 24 or 48 hours.
Do they hurt a lot during extraction?
Not necessarily. There are people who hardly notice it, while others feel much pain. In those cases they may not have enough space and “push” the remaining teeth to open space.
In addition, being in a part of the mouth of difficult access, it is frequent that they generate infections because the plaque and the bacteria accumulate in that zone.
In any case, do not worry. The procedure is performed under anesthesia.
I am 35 years old and I still have not had the wisdom teeth, is it normal?
Wisdom teeth often go out between the ages of 18 and 25, but they do not always do so. In fact, there is a 35% of the population that is born without them, so it is possible that you might not have them.
